USAINS HOLDING AND LUMILEDS MALAYSIA INK MOU TO DRIVE INNOVATION IN LED TECHNOLOGY

Bayan Lepas, Penang – August 25, 2025 – USAINS Holding Sdn Bhd has officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Lumileds Malaysia Sdn Bhd to collaborate on the development of advanced materials for next-generation LED technology. The signing ceremony marks a pivotal step in strengthening industry-academia partnerships, reinforcing Malaysia’s position as a hub for innovation and high-value technology.

The collaboration focuses on the Development of Ultra-low Coefficient of Thermal Expansion (CTE), High-Reflective Silicone for LED packaging and performance enhancement, led by Ir. Dr. Mohamad Riduwan Ramli from the School of Materials and Mineral Resources Engineering, Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM). This initiative is joined through the collaboration initiated by Lumileds, represented by Dr. Rafiza binti Ramli. These advancements aim to tackle a major challenge in LED manufacturing—improving the reliability, efficiency, and durability of LED lighting products.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Farid Wajidi Mat Yusoff, Group Managing Director of USAINS Group of Companies, emphasized the significance of this collaboration:

This MoU is more than a formal agreement—it is a commitment to jointly advance innovation in LED technology. Together, we envision solutions that address global challenges in energy-efficient lighting while creating opportunities for researchers, students, and industry practitioners.”

Dr. Ong Teng San, Director of Technology Integration at Lumileds Malaysia, highlighted the strategic nature of this partnership:
“Lumileds brings real-world challenges, industry relevance, and access to advanced manufacturing and reliability testing, while USM contributes deep scientific expertise and a pipeline of talented researchers. Together, we will drive the development of next-generation materials and innovative solutions that strengthen Malaysia’s position in the global LED and semiconductor supply chain.”

He also stressed that the partnership is about more than technology—it’s about people:
“Through this MoU, we aim to nurture young researchers, postgraduate students, and technical experts by combining theoretical knowledge with hands-on industrial experience. These future leaders will play a critical role in shaping the industry.”

Distinguished guests included Mr. Deric Chew (Director of Human Resources), Dr. Rafiza Ramli (Senior Manager, PD Material Engineering), and Mr. Zaid Hassan Amin (Manager, Human Resources) from Lumileds Malaysia. Representing USM were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Khairul Anuar Shariff (Deputy Dean, Research, Innovation & Industry-Community Engagement), School of Materials and Mineral Resources Engineering) and Ir. Dr. Mohamad Riduwan Ramli, accompanied by the dedicated research teams from both organizations.

This partnership is expected to deliver impactful results, contributing to Malaysia’s aspiration to lead in advanced material research and sustainable technology solutions.
