How to Write a Publishable Technical Journal? - From the Perspective of an Author, Reviewer and Editor

Technical publication is one of the most important outputs for researchers and engineers. In order to write a publishable and high-impact technical journal, several important critical skills are needed. In this training course, emphasis will be focused on the skill of writing high-impact factor journal in areas of physical sciences, engineering, applied and pure sciences. This course is divided into four main parts, namely (1) Publication Flow, (2) Ethics Issues, (3) Technique of Manuscript Writing (before writing, during writing, and after writing a manuscript), and (4) Hands-on Session. For the first part, the whole publication process flow will be introduced. The main role and function of an author, publisher, editor-in-chief, editor, publication manager, and reviewer will be elaborated. In the second part, ethics issues related to plagiarism and professionalism will be explained. Common mistakes will also been highlighted. Then the training will be followed by sharing the knowledge and know-how in writing professionally a technical journal from the start to the end of submission to a Publisher. Ways of constructing, formulating, generating, and “selling” of ideas from research data/results to a well written, presented, and structured manuscript will be systematically taught in the course. Do and don’t will be highlighted from the perspective of a reviewer and editor. Submission of the ready manuscript and techniques to rebuttal comments from reviewers and editor will also be shared. Lastly, participants will be able to practise what they have learnt in the hands-on session (5 hours) by writing up some important sections of a manuscript with the guidance of the Trainer. Critical comments from the Trainer as an experience author, reviewer, and editor will be shared throughout the two-day course.
