About NBCC & NBCC-I National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC) The National Board for Certified Counselors, Inc. and Affiliates (NBCC), an independent not-for-profit credentialing body for counselors, was incorporated in 1982 to establish and monitor a national certification system, to identify those counselors who have voluntarily sought and obtained certification, and to maintain a register of those counselors. The National Board for Certified Counselors, Inc. and Affiliates (NBCC) promotes counseling through certification. NBCC International NBCC International (NBCC-I), a division of the National Board for Certified Counselors, Inc. & Affiliates (NBCC), was founded in 2003 to strengthen counseling and highlight counseling needs around the world. NBCC-I enjoys strong relationships with WHO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and the Organization for Economic Co- operation, and Development (OECD), as well as various other international and national entities in its work to empower counselors to provide counseling services as needed, wherever they are needed.
