National Board for Certified Counselors (NBCC)
The National Board for Certified Counselors, Inc. and Affiliates (NBCC), an
independent not-for-profit credentialing body for counselors, was incorporated in
1982 to establish and monitor a national certification system, to identify those
counselors who have voluntarily sought and obtained certification, and to maintain
a register of those counselors.
The National Board for Certified Counselors, Inc. and Affiliates (NBCC) promotes
counseling through certification. In pursuit of this mission, NBCC:

Promotes quality assurance in counseling practice
•
Promotes the value of counseling
•
Promotes public awareness of quality counseling practice
•
Promotes professionalism in counselling
•
Promotes leadership in credentialing

NBCC International
NBCC International (NBCC-I), a division of the National Board for Certified
Counselors, Inc. & Affiliates (NBCC), was founded in 2003 to strengthen
counseling and highlight counseling needs around the world. NBCC-I enjoys
strong relationships with WHO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and
Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and the Organization for Economic Co-
operation, and Development (OECD), as well as various other international and
national entities in its work to empower counselors to provide counseling services
as needed, wherever they are needed. Partially in recognition of NBCC
International’s work, NBCC was recognized as a non-governmental organization
in operational relations by UNESCO.
